Knappogue Castle was built in 1467 by Sean MacNamara, and is a magnificent example of a medieval tower house.

It has a long and varied history from a battle field to a dwelling place.

In 1571, the Castle became the seat of the MacNamara Clan, Earls of West Clanculle.

Medieval Banquets are held in the castle from April - October.

It is an ideal location for an exclusive castle wedding reception.

In the summer months they make an ideal starter or follow-up to Bunratty for the quality of their banquets and Irish entertainment.

The Castle also has beautiful walled gardens that were designed and constructedin 1817.

In 1966 the castle was purchased by the Andrews family from America.

The Andrews restored it as their private residence and reinstated the beautiful walled garden to its former glory.

The Andrews were the last occupants of the Castle.

Shannon Development purchased the castle in 1996 with the intention of preserving the building for future generations.
