Punchestown Racecourse is the home of Irish National Hunt Racing in Ireland and hosts a total of 18 race meetings throughout the year. The highlight of this racing calendar is the 5 day Irish National Hunt Festival which takes place from Tuesday 28th April – Saturday 2nd May 2009. The 2008 Festival was the most successful festival to date attracting a record breaking 106,000 racegoers over the five days while offering €2.5 million in prize money. Day 1 Tuesday 28th April - Kerrygold Day The opening day of the Punchestown Festival features the Grade One Kerrygold Champion Chase won last year in stunning fashion by “Twist Magic” This day also includes a further two Grade One races – the Champion Novice Hurdle and the Ellier Developments Chase. Day 2 Wednesday 29th April - Guinness Day Guinness Gold Cup day features Ireland’s richest Grade One chase which was won in glittering style in 2008 by “Neptune Collonges”. The biggest betting race of the week is likely to be the Grade One Paddy Power Irish National Hunt flat race, the world’s richest bumper. Day 3 Thursday 30th April - Ladbrokes Day Star hurdles take centre stage on Festival Thursday with the feature race of the day being the www.Ladbrokes.com World Series Hurdle. The day also celebrates the great tradition of Cross Country racing at Punchestown with the historic Avon Ri La Touche Chase – the race which saw “Oh Jackie” lead the field home in style. Day 4 Friday 1st May - Rabobank Day Ladies Day at Punchestown is a celebration of all that is great in Irish racing. The enclosures are awash with fashion and style, all of which are taking part in the Newbridge Silverware Best Dressed Ladies Finale. The feature race on this day is the Rabobank Champion Hurdle won last year by “Punjabi”. Day 5 Saturday 2nd May - Ballymore Family Day The 2008 Festival saw the introduction of the fifth day which added both colour and atmosphere to the overall festival. The day which proved to be a popular local Family Day attracted a strong crowd of nearly 20,000 racegoers. The feature race on this day is Ireland’s richest handicap hurdle valued at €220,000 and kindly sponsored by Ballymore Properties. THE NEWBRIDGE SILVERWARE BEST DRESSED COMPETITION The Newbridge Silverware Fashion Extravaganza will feature: The Newbridge Silverware Four Day "Best Dressed Lady" Competition from April 28th – May 1st 2009 During the first three days of the festival, the Newbridge Silverware panel of celebrity judges will select a Best Dressed Lady Finalist, who, as well as receiving prizes worth €5,000, will go forward to the Grand Final which will be held on Ladies Day, Friday 1st May. An additional two finalists will be selected on Ladies Day making up a grand final of five ladies. The overall winner of the title of Newbridge Silverware Best Dressed Lady will receive a grand prize of €30k worth of Newbridge Silverware products. In 2008 Newbridge Silverware added a true touch of Hollywood Glamour to their celebrity judging panel in the form of Screen Legends, Larry Hagman and Linda Gray.
