The RTE All Ireland Drama Festival continues this week at the Dean Crowe Theatre & Arts Centre, Athlone, County Westmeath, with some outstanding productions lined up to celebrate the Golden Jubilee of the festival. The action concludes on Saturday night 9th May. The festival showcases all that is good in Irish amateur theatre. Nine groups qualify for a place in the finals in Athlone where audiences flock to see gripping performances of works by both Irish and international authors. Competition is keen, and with a lively fringe offering many cultural events in town throughout the run, the festival is the ideal starting point to get the summer season underway.

This year the RTÉ All-Ireland Drama Festival has a double celebration. The Drama Festival has been associated with the Dean Crowe Theatre for 50 years and this year is also the 50th Anniversary of the first performance of John B. Keane's 'Sive'. To mark this occasion, John B's son, Billy Keane, officially opened this year’s festival on May 1st. The festival is run under the auspices of the Amateur Drama Council of Ireland www.adci.ie  and running since 1953.
