The Owenass River rises in the Slieve Blooms, on Capard Ridge, and passes through the Cathole Falls and Barkmills before advancing through Mountmellick to join the River Barrow at the Borness.
Those in a brave mood can take an icy dip in the waters of the Cathole Falls, situated on the west side of the mountains.
There is also a picnic area located on the banks the river.
Ballyhupahaun, the nearest village is a small hamlet in the SlieveBloom Mountains.
Because of it beautiful location, Ballyhupahaun is situated in there are many beautiful walks quite nearby.
Most of the area is covered in forest.
The trees were planted by local farmers on marginal land unsuitable for farming.
The Cathole Falls are located beside the equally interesting Ballyhupahaun House.
