About

County Galway is sure to be a highlight of any visit to Ireland. The undisputed tourist capital city of Ireland is the centrepiece. It is the party city of Ireland with the world famous Galway Races, Oyster Festival, Arts Festival and any other variety of festival you can name. Galway County is almost like two counties, to the west of the city the enchanting jaw-dropping beauty of Connemara with its enchanting capital town of Clifden, and to the east, the more urban and flat landscape with market towns like Loughrea, Ballinasloe and pretty Portumna on Lough Derg. Oranmore, Clarinbridge and Claregalway are more stylish towns in east Galway.

From the lake lands of Derryclare Lake to the rugged beauty and the intricate coastline of Connemara, there's unique charm and a sense of hospitality you'll find nowhere else. There are so many contrasting sights in Galway that it merits an entire holiday with out ever leaving its boundaries. Beaches, islands, mountains, lakes, rivers and laughter – Galway has it all! Hiking, biking, horse riding, sailing, golfing and singing- Galway has it all!

Galway city offers the best in shopping with the famous narrow and winding Shop Street home to dozens of designer stores. Eyre Square in the middle of the city is an oasis of a park to sit and people-watch. The beautiful square is surrounded by all the best swish and budget hotel accommodation from the imposing Great Southern Hotel to the new ultra-stylish G Hotel and nearby Galway Radisson. There appears to be more pubs than houses in Galway, all providing entertainment from traditional to modern contemporary music.

Leave the bustling city and head west to glorious Connemara from where you may never return; such is the beauty and wilderness. Make Clifden your base and explore the Maam Turk Mountains, Leenane, Lettermore and of course the famous Aran Islands and Inis Boffin Island.

Culture and art is everywhere as well, from the Galway City Museum to the stunning Galway City Cathedral.

Just go, suspend that commodity known as time, and enjoy! Life is too short to miss Galway and this page has a similar problem in trying to tell you about it.
