Tarmonbarry is a restful little village along the River Shannon, north of Longford Town.
As you cross the bridge over the Shannon in Tarmonbarry, there is a good stopping point for a meal and refreshments and the restaurant/pub is a favourite watering-hole for river folk and makes a great place to break a journey between Dublin and the destinations in the North West of Ireland.
You can take a tree-lined river walk and watch the cruisers negotiate their way through the lock.
The road to Lanesborough winds around the foot of Slieve Ban, which rises to 800 feet.
